Touring our own city…

My mom and her husband graciously offered to watch the boys for the weekend so the Chef and I could get away for the weekend together.  We had a wonderful time- enjoying the city and each other without the interruption of little ones (though we did miss them and talked about them an awful lot!)

We started out the weekend by heading to a quaint town on the lake and having dinner and walking around the marinas.

The next morning we indulged in a decadent breakfast at one of our favorite restaurants in town, M. Henry.  We had the bread pudding with peaches and berries

And the french toast with strawberries and rhubarb.  Awesome!!!

We then took the train and headed into the city to explore:  No agenda, just whatever we wanted to do for the day… didn’t hav eto worry about it being kid-friendly, or being home in time for naps.  It was quite reminiscent of our pre-children days.  We love being spontaneous and it was great to have a weekend that we could be a little selfish.

We headed to Navy Pier and decided to take a boat tour of the archetecture of the city.

We saw the stained glass museum which was beautiful!

We grabbed some dinner and then headed to see The Blue Man group!  It was our first time seeing the show and it was definitely entertaining!  Funnier than we expected and much more audience participation than expected.

Late in the evening, we took a laptop and movie to the beach and had some drinks and dessert while watching Avatar.  The next day we slept in, had a nice relaxing day of cuddling and watching movies before the boys came home.  It was a great weekend and respite for us!  Thanks mom and Carl!
